CONTACTS MEETINGS OUTINGS RECYCLE SITE CONSERVATION MTG NEWS SIERRA T-SHIRTS MORE LINKS

Want to get involved but can't make the meetings?

Here are some of the issues we're working on and who to contact if you'd like to help.

HELP WANTED : Recycling Center Chair - Are you looking for ways to help the Nashville Sierra Club but can’t leave home for meetings and hikes? Well, we have a volunteer opportunity to become chair of our group's biggest fund-raiser, our Recycling Center.  This position puts you in charge!  And, most of the work can be done from home. Give it a shot, it’s a great place to meet new folks, and if it’s too much, there's lot of help from others.

Our contract requires us to have volunteers to help with the recycling and keep the site clean from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays; in return, Metro pays our group a percentage of the profits!  Responsibilities include scheduling recruiting volunteers for each Saturday. As the volunteer coordinator, you’ll meet a lot of nice people.  In fact, I’m marrying one of my old volunteers in July!  This recycling site is vitally important not only because our consistent presence will increase recycling in general, but also because the funds we receive enables us to rent an office, pay for mailings and many other functions. You will also be our contact with Metro, although when I was running the recycling program, I rarely contacted them.

The Recycling Site Chair receives lot's of support from those of us already active in the club!  Leaders in the club will help get you started for the first several months, and assist as much as needed with scheduling and recruiting site volunteers.  You will be the one who will stay in contact with all site volunteers maintaining a positive relationship, and following up with new people who express an interest. This job does require making phone calls and staying in touch with everyone. You will also be the one that explains, and/or educate volunteers as to what they will be doing, what they will need, and how to get to the site. To reestablish our presence there, we will need at least two to three volunteers each Saturday.

If you like to look more information, or contact to volunteer, contact Betsy at hackberrypond@hotmail.com
